Inside a combined Bachelor of Laws Bachelor of Medical Science at UTS

Inside law and medical science.. We spoke to:

Name: Louisa Dimarco

Studied: Bachelor of Medical Science Bachelor of Laws at UTS

Career post graduation: Secured a graduate job at a corporate law firm

Before I met Louisa, I had no idea what medical science was or how it impacts society.

Louisa told me that medical science is all about disease – how to diagnose, treat and prevent it.

I was surprised to learn about how directly it can actually impact society.

Medical scientists can work as cancer researchers or work on

What I found even more interesting was Louisa’s choice to combine the degree with law.

As it turns out, medical science and law actually intersect in really interesting ways and doing both can be a huge asset in either profession. Louisa eventually hopes to specialise in medical law after she has been admitted.

An example is the current conversation about whether it’s ethical for DNA testing companies (who offer at-home DNA kits)

Lawyers with a medical science background and an understanding of DNA would have a much greater advantage navigating the legalities of the issue over a lawyer who doesn’t.
