Property Economics at UTS was highly recommended to me from many industry professionals.
The subjects offered covered all aspects of the commercial property industry, allowing me to gain an appreciation for different property sectors and enabling me to make an informed decision on which career path to pursue.
UTS students are well regarded for their professional experience gained whilst studying.
The flexibility of class timetables (late afternoon and evening classes) allowed me to commence professional employment in my first year of study, enhancing my understanding of theoretical concepts throughout the degree.
I enjoy being part of a team that values some of the most valuable assets in Australia – Major Shopping Centres. Being involved in a highly specialised asset class provides opportunities to develop skills and expertise that are greatly sought after in the industry.
Whilst at studying at UTS and since graduating I have worked in other areas including Commercial Property Management and Property Economics Consulting.
A career highlight was being part of AMP Capital’s centre management team for their Circular Quay portfolio which includes the iconic 50 Bridge Street and 33 Alfred Street buildings. Whilst I was involved in the daily management of these office towers, I also participated in aspects of the planning process for the $2billion Quay Quarter Development.
My career so far has been very rewarding as I have been (and continue to be) mentored by industry leaders who are committed to my professional development. My advice to students considering a career in Property Economics is that it is important to know where your interests and passions are and purse them!
Always perform at your peak (even for minor tasks), remain consistent and stay committed. I’m only at the tip of the ice berg and look forward to a challenging and rewarding career ahead.
