JUST JOKING

Teacher who says, “I’ll wait, it’s your time you’re wasting, not mine” goes on to talk for 40 minutes about time wasting

“… She will then give a 40min emotional and spiritual speech about how the class is wasting time and resources.”

Roy Morgan research has found that teachers who claim, “I don’t care how much time you waste” will go on to waste at least eight times more time in their lecture about time wasting.

The research piece that followed five teachers from five schools reveals that teachers who threaten to “just wait,” will actually not ‘wait’ – but pause for ten seconds before launching into a lecture.

“It’s an empty threat, 99.8% of times.” Head researcher, Joan Briggs comments.

Matthew Butler (17) confirms the study, explaining, “Yeah it’s typical. A teacher will tell the entire class “I’m just gonna sit here until you’re quiet” – but doesn’t.

“People will stop talking, or quiet down… but she will then give a 40min emotional and spiritual speech about how the class is wasting time and resources. Basically just about how much work we are missing out on.

“Then the bell goes and class is over and we’ve wasted like 90% of the class getting in trouble for interrupting 2 minutes of the class.

And then it’s our fault for being behind.”
