Roy Morgan research has found that a worrying number of teachers in Australia do not understand the purpose of a school bell.
The study commenced after a number of teachers claimed,
“the bell doesn’t dismiss you, I do,”
…despite the definition of a school bell stating, “a hollow device made out of metal that rings when struck signifying the start and end of class.”
In a classic chicken or the egg debate, one student who wishes to remain anonymous claims, “Then why the hell should the bell decide when I come to class, if it doesn’t decided when I leave?”
The same student explains, “it’s so frustrating when my teacher says, ‘what makes you so special to decide when the beginning of class it?’ – well… right back at you, ‘what makes you so special to decide when the END of class is?’”
